Some Great News!
At long last
As many of you have probably already noticed, things here on Medium have taken something of a turn for the worse of late. As part of some sort of cost cutting exercise, or so it seems, the Holy Grail of Medium Curation/Wider Distribution has disappeared down some algorhythm rabbit hole.
Along with a great many of my colleagues and other writers I know here, my monthly income from Medium has taken a hell of a dive. At one point almost everything I wrote was curated and I hit monthly earnings of almost $700! That has now all gone, pretty much. For the month of June I earned just $29.91. Not good, especially since my small UK pension has been almost halved by the Government simply because I moved to live in Japan. Something to with the lack of some sort of political agreement. More like a cynical scam to rob the aged.
In response I decided to see if I could branch out and started an account on Substack, where I hear many top writers from Medium have moved to monetize their output of creative content. I get the impression they are already seeing some very positive signs in terms of earning power. For me, it’s early days as I have yet to monetize my account there. The plan was to take the time to see if I could first build some sort of following and then ease in a monthly subscription. Meanwhile…
