The Island Part Four
The end too close for comfort
At first I thought it might be Kell looming over me. I hoped with all my heart it was Kell. The pungent aroma of bitter almonds told me different. I made to rise off the bed.
“ Hello…no please, don’t get up on my account. The door was open, I hope you don’t mind me coming in.”
I relaxed back onto the bed, even though I felt anything but relaxed. This man oozed fear from his every pore. He had an unpleasant presence which terrified me.
“ I saw you come in on the early morning boat this morning. Perhaps you didn’t notice me standing on the pier waiting?”
Clearly this man totally overestimated his attempts to play the grey man and blend in with his surroundings virtually un-noticed.
“ I was waiting for somebody who was to bring me something. A small package. And I wasn’t entirely sure of the exact identity of who that person might be. I simply follow instructions. It’s better that way, everything on a need to know basis. Don’t you think?”
I said nothing. I didn’t know who he was nor what he wanted, nor was I interested to know to be honest. I just wanted him gone out of my room as soon as possible. But I was totally defenceless laying back prone on my single bed. For all I knew, he had a weapon concealed about…
