Strange Meeting Behind The Lines
On mysterious poetic interactions with nature
I am sometimes asked where I get my ideas for a poem and more often than not I have to answer that I haven't got a clue. Quite often I am inspired by nature and my interactions with it, indeed with life itself. Sometimes ideas just seem to drop out of the sky. In other words, it is all a bit of a mystery.
However, the following three poems, from 'Flowers In The Dirt, Volumes 1 and 2' came from a very conscious attempt to emulate the idea and form, but not the content, of three classic poems which made a very big impression on me. The Poets I tried to emulate were by DJ Enright, Wilfred Owen and John Donne. At the end of these three poems is a link to a sonnet I wrote which was inspired by William Shakespeare.
Shouting Clouds
“The clouds are shouting.“ I hear her say
As a dazzle of lightning flashes across The horizon.
“It’s tewibbly fwightening at this time of day.”
Her trembling voice stumbling across the bed that she lies on.
